Plant-Based Solutions for Managing Water in Your Landscape Designs

Overview

Learn the goals of managing water on the landscape and how to choose plants adapted to support them with Shannon Currey, Izel Native Plants.

Plant-Based Solutions for Managing Water in Your Landscape Designs

Traditionally, built structures and hardscape did the heavy lifting when it came to managing water and runoff in our landscapes. While that’s often still the case, we now recognize that plants, soils, and natural systems have a greater role to play. They offer dynamic solutions that add ecological benefits and build resilience. This presentation will address general goals for treating water that falls on the landscape, then explore strategies for choosing plants that are adapted to address them. We'll take a deep dive into a handful of specific native plants that are well adapted for drainage areas—at the base of downspouts, in rain gardens, in ditches, near air conditioning outlets, or anywhere that water collects—focusing on characteristics and adaptations that make these plants particularly helpful. You’ll leave the presentation with a better understanding of how plants can improve drainage and help your designs become more resilient in the face of increasingly severe storms.

WEBINAR FORMAT
