Mentoring

The goal of this program is to provide Emerging Professional, Professional and Student members with information to help them become better designers and better businesspeople. Topics will be centered on the APLD Core Competency of Professional Business Practices. Members are welcome to join individual meetings or to sign up for a full “semester”. We will offer topics we think are relevant and are open to ideas from members as well.

Each meeting will count as 1 hour of APLD CEU.

Meetings will the first Thursday of the month at 1pm ET (10PT, 11MT, 12CT) from February - May, 2022. Each meeting will have a short presentation (~30 minutes) on the topic, followed by Q&A and discussion.

INVESTMENT:

APLD VC Members: $80 for all 4 sessions; $20 each | APLD Members: $100 for all 4 sessions; $30 each | non-APLD members: $120 for all sessions; $40 each

February 3: Photographing your Landscape

Photographing your landscape. Guest speaker: Rich Pomerantz. Rich has been a photographer for much of his life, with his images published in Garden Design, Sunset Magazine and Horticulture, to name a few. Rich will share ideas on how best to capture outdoor images and composing images, as well as when you should think about hiring a professional photographer. He’ll also share tips on file storage and organization.

March 3: Resale Certification/ Resale ethics and Legalities

Guest speaker: Bobbie Burdick. Discussion followed by group discussion

April 7: Portfolios and Websites

Guest speaker: Katie Elzer-Peters (former Editor for The Designer). Keeping your portfolios and Websites up-to-date. Learn how often to update, best size images, what type of images are best.

May 5: Other Streams of Income

Guest speaker: Richard Rosillo. Discuss additional streams of income. Including: add ons with additional fees and time for designer. And how to sell a concept as your design service, without needing to produce a formal design plan deliverable.
